One year later, he moved back to the Midwest, accepting a position at KIMT in Mason City, Iowa. During his five year tenure in Iowa, Tyler worked as morning and noon news anchor, and week-day reporter.
In 2013, Tyler won an Emmy for anchoring and producing a noon newscast when the city of Northwood, Iowa was evacuated following a fire at a chemical plant. In 2019, Tyler played a major role in WEAU's first ever Emmy win, when Hello Wisconsin won Best Morning Newscast for their coverage of the Jake Patterson and Colten Treu court cases. His work has also been recognized by the Iowa Broadcasters Association and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.
When he's not at work, Tyler can be found at home with his wife and two boys. The family of four is very active outdoors, and they love sports! The Mickelson's are HUGE Packers, Brewers, Wild, Bucks and Badgers fans. Tyler is also Head Football coach at Fall Creek High School and coaches two Little League baseball teams.
