GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Manitowoc artist has teamed up with Prevea President and CEO Dr. Ashok Rai to honor the lives lost to COVID-19, as well as the dedication of health care workers during the course of the pandemic.

Jason Prigge of Manitowoc painted a piece of artwork, which now hangs at the new Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center in Green Bay.

The piece, appropriately titled “Promise of a New Day” uses symbolism in the flock of white seabirds soaring over the Bay of Green Bay.

The gold-dipped birds in the leftmost panel are dedicated to those who were lost to COVID-19.

“It’ll be the darkest time hopefully of our lives. Hopefully, we’ll never have to experience anything like this ever again,” said Dr. Rai. “But yet, you want to honor it in a way that we look forward to the future, and that’s why I’m glad we did it.”

The painting took two weeks to complete.
